Blinded by the light

Good morning!

Another day to write about life as a college baseball player's mom has dawned, although I was not up at sunrise. Too early....

What's up? Well, there was a fascinating article in the school's paper yesterday about pitching. It seems that the coach is disappointed in his bullpen. His normally steady bullpen guys have proven to be unstable. What is going on?

I will tell you! It is what I predicted all along. These throwers are decent players, but not great. They played against so-so teams and looked like Major league all-stars. Sure, BP Grandmom would have too if she pitched against these teams. As the big leftie sat on the bench and breathed, he watched as the team barely eked out a victory against marginal teams. Now that they are in conference play, the reality of what they have is settling in.

Here is the best part of the story....the Coach mentioned 90% of his pitchers in the interview except for one big left handed kid. it gets more interesting.....the author of the story used a photo of Buddy throwing the ball for the article. In a nonverbal way, I think that he was sending a message to the coach....'why are you not pitching this kid on weekends?'

Wouldn't it have made more sense to use a photo of a player who gets more pitching time than a guy who is breathing on the bench? Does the author who has been covering the team all season see something that the coach does not?

Hmmmm.....

Later!
